From the Principal

Principal's note

At Glendale East we care about all aspects to our students' learning.

Our mission is to provide quality educational experiences to engender the values of excellence, citizenship and life long learning.

Through our yearly school evaluations our parents have strongly expressed that the best things about Glendale East are the caring and professional attitude of our staff and the positive ethos of our school for students to achieve their very best.

Over the past 10 years our school has been recognised as a leader in a number of educational areas. This recognition has been in the form of awards and in being sought to share our journey and programs on a national, interstate, state and regional level.

Our ground breaking work in Values Education has been nationally recognised in Federal Government publications and in State Parliament. We presented at the first National Values Conference held in Melbourne, at the ACT state conference and at the Hunter regional conference and our school contributed to the national values code. We are continually asked to speak with clusters and schools about values education.

We have been recognised in National Literacy and Numeracy Week with achievement awards for our programs in both Literacy and Numeracy and   presented at State Early Learning conference on our literacy programs.

We have also been acknowledged for our work in Aboriginal Education and presented at both the state Early Learning Conference and, although we are not a targeted school, we presented at the Targeted Aboriginal School's conference.

Our work in Environmental Education has attracted a great deal of recognition including favourable mention in state parliament. We have been the recipients of many state and regional awards for our work in environmental education and have featured in a number of media articles.

Glendale East provides students with a small, friendly "country school" environment in the suburbs of Lake Macquarie with 16 acres of beautiful gardens and playing areas.

Our Parents and Citizens Association has worked hard to ensure that all of our classrooms are air-conditioned.

We provide:

  • Effective discipline in a caring environment.
  • Excellent classroom teaching by a dedicated staff.
  • A well organised  and planned curriculum integrating, skills, values and perspectives
  • Successful programs to meet the individual, special needs of students.
  • "Peer Support" and extensive orientation programs.
  • Excellent playground and sporting equipment, sporting and fitness programs and opportunities.
  • Technology taught to all classrooms and in a well equipped computer room with access to internet and email.
  • Outstanding choral, instrumental, drama and dance opportunities

Further to this the school is enjoying solid academic testing in nationla assessments.  Our experienced staff are dedicated to the improvement of all children and the school's goals over the coming years are to improve literacy, in particular spelling and writing,  numeracy and to increase the use of and access to technology.
