Glendale East Public School proudly established a new Hearing Support Team at the beginning of 2019. The team supports students who are Deaf or hard of hearing across the Lake Macquarie West region. The Itinerant Support Teachers for Hearing also support the families of students who are Deaf or hard of hearing and provide training and specialised support for school staff. The goal of the team is to support language and communication for students. They do this by tailoring communication methods to suit each child.
This includes speech, Auslan, signed English and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). The team acknowledges the history of Deaf Education and are committed to working with the Deaf Community to support Deaf culture for students.
